Goldfish Swim School opened its doors to Richmond with their West End location in February 2018. I truly cannot say enough great things about the facility, teachers, management, curriculum, and overall experience from start to finish every single lesson.
Going to the pool with my two is no easy feat. Like all siblings, they create these secret plans to run in opposite directions and giggle when mommy begins to unravel at the seams. Convinced they have a pow wow in the mornings to discuss their plan of action over breakfast and juice! In all seriousness, going to the pool with my two isn’t a relaxing afternoon. I don’t have the luxury of finding a chair and sprawling out with a book/magazine. I am constantly scanning and thinking 2-3 steps ahead of where they may move or go in anticipation of a fall or a dunk so I can grab them.
Why Goldfish Swim School?
Because it was created by parents, for parents. The facility is inviting, open, and colorful. There is one instructor per for every 4 children along with lifeguards and other staff on the deck at all times. The class sizes are small and manageable so your child gets the attention they deserve. The staff utilize puppets, floats, songs, and props to engage even the youngest of swimmers into the 90 degree heated pool for 30 minutes of fun.
Do my kids need swim lessons?
Yes! Did you know that drowning is the leading cause of injury death to children ages one to four—and the second leading cause of injury death for children ages one to 14? Why am I telling you this? Because as we all flock to our neighborhood pools, beaches, lakes, etc. and I want to make sure you and your children have the skills you need to be safe.
Science of Swimplay Curriculum
Goldfish Swim School uses a curriculum called Science of SwimPlay® which makes it fun to learn something new while gaining essential life skills in a safe and supportive environment. It focuses on using exploration and play to help them learn essential swim skills. The staff provide positive encouragement, ribbons, and check in with parents at the end of each lesson. The staff highlight what your child did great on that lesson – is just the reinforcement needed to leave with a smile and be excited about returning the following week.
I have seen tremendous growth in the boys. They understand concepts of how to safely get out of the pool using Goldfish Swim School’s method of fin, fin, belly, flipper and it is now ingrained that if they are in the water and need to get to the side they turn and grab the side closest to them and crab pinch their way to the ladder. My two year old is able to dive to the bottom of the pool to grab rings and loves going underwater.
