Boy or Girl? Gender revealed!

I have found that the more pregnancies and children I have, the more bizarre the questions and statements have become.  For example, many people (even strangers) flat out asked if baby 3 was planned or a surprise and seemed to have no problem inquiring about my reproductive decisions.  I heard “Won’t you be so disappointed if it’s another boy?” “When is your husband getting a vasectomy?” or something along the lines of “But you already have two such beautiful little boys, why would you have another?”  “You won’t have enough hands!” or “You are going to be so tired, why didn’t you plan for a bigger gap in between kids?”

Let me clear up a few things before moving on, just in case you seem inclined to want to ask or comment similarly to any of the above – Someone else’s reproductive decisions are none of your business, so whether someone is having baby 3, 4, or 15 unless you carry and birth that child you get no say so on how many times they do this.   I also really don’t understand the mindset of thinking that any family make up other than a mom, dad, sister and brother is anything less than perfect.  Why does a family need one child of each gender to be “done?”  And NO, I wasn’t disappointed to hear we are having a 3rd boy.  I am absolutely over the moon, thankful, and blessed, just as I would be with any gender. In regards to how tired I am? I am ALREADY TIRED. I was tired with 1 child, I am tired with 2 children, and of course I am going to be tired with 3 kids. I am pretty sure I will be tired until I watch them fly the nest and blossom into adult men who can take care of themselves.   I will choose the long nights and days that run together time and time again.  It’s the biggest blessing I have ever or will ever be bestowed. So, excuse my language when I say SHUT UP about how tired I am going to be, and buy me a Starbucks drink! Maybe you think I am crazy to have 3 little boys all 27 months apart.  Maybe I am crazy.  But guess what? It’s my crazy.  It’s the best kind of crazy to have.  My house may be messy, but boy (OH boy!) are these the best days of our lives.

Apart from seeing those two lines on the pregnancy test, I think finding out the gender is the most exciting part of pregnancy.  Going in to the office to hear the heartbeat and see your baby at ultrasound time always brought on a monsoon of tears and a sigh of relief that everything was “alright.”  I find myself looking forward to the ultrasound visits and counting down the days until I could see my baby again and how much he had changed.

I will confess that I am not cut out for waiting to find out gender at time of delivery.  I know it’s exciting to have a surprise, but if you know me at all….. you know that I HATE surprises and I am a big control freak.  The idea of even waiting 20 weeks to find out the gender feels like an eternity.  If you are low on patience and dying to know before 20 weeks like me, you are in luck!  In RVA, we have Clear Sight Ultrasound and they offer gender screenings at 15 weeks.  Clear Sight had us in to find out gender of baby 3, and what an AMAZING experience it was.

The husband and wife team behind Clear Sight are trained ultrasound technicians specializing in non-diagnostic 3D/4D Ultrasounds.  They have run the company for 13 years, providing approximately 13,000 gender reveal scans.   Tim, the husband, is a member of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. Their customer service is exceptional and they make you feel right at home from the moment you step in the door.   They provided flexible scheduling with our busy work and kid lives.

If you haven’t had a 4d ultrasound (which I hadn’t either) prepare to be blown away at the exceptional quality of the imaging.  The picture was so clear we were able to see the umbilical cord and watch baby boy open and close his mouth.  Instead of seeing the generic rough outline of the face and body, we saw clear concise images of every detail of his body.  I couldn’t take my eyes from the screen and wished for time to stop so we didn’t have to end the scan.

Clear Sight projects the ultrasound image on a huge projector screen on the wall, so there is no need to squint and roll to see the small ultrasound screen.  You can invite up to 10 guests if you want family or loved ones to be a part of the experience as well.  There are 5 different package options ranging from 125-299 dollars.  Clear Sight also offers photography during pregnancy, newborn and family photo sessions. They carry My Baby’s Heartbeat buddies that will have their baby’s heartbeat in it as an add on to our scan packages as well as giant gender reveal balloons for that big bang gender announcement.

Did you find out gender before delivery? How did you share the news with friends and family? We are thrilled to round out our crew with a 3rd baby boy!

YAY!! I think the best part of having three boys close together is that they will love playing with one another (fighting too, but all kids fight) 😀 It will always be an adventure! Congratulations.
