Happy day 1 of a new year friends! Crack open that fresh new planner and enjoy the blank pages and the freedom to write a new chapter this year. Whether you rocked 2016 with fitness and health or you are ready to change habits starting today – I am excited to walk side by side to help achieve your goals.
To spice things up in January 2017, I will be posting a picture and description of a new yoga pose every day on my instagram account; fit_family_life and try them out! Let me know which moves are your fave and you might see them throughout the month!
The American Osteopathic Association outlines some of the major benefits of yoga below.
- Increased flexibility.
- Increased muscle strength and tone.
- Improved respiration, energy and vitality.
- Maintaining a balanced metabolism.
- Weight reduction.
- Cardio and circulatory health.
- Improved athletic performance.
- Protection from injury.
What this list doesn’t include that capture my favorite aspects: the meditation, the quiet and soothing elements, the focus on controlled breathing, and the notion that you can do it anywhere at any time with no needed items but your body an an open mind.
For day 1, I am featuring a side plank. Don’t be fooled this move may look easy but if done correctly you will feel the burn.
Key things to remember: your arms should be a continuous straight line, don’t let your hips sag to the ground, and don’t look at the floor!
